Mosquito infestation!

MUST READ!: My friend and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and on the very first night we began seeing bugs in our room. Thinking nothing of it, we ignore it the first night but when we returned to the hotel after a day out on our second night, my friend sees a huge mosquito nest in the corner of our room! There were baby mosquitos, older mosquitos, and the mother mosquito. Photos attached below. My friend and I go down to front desk to report it to the man working and he was very kind and went above and beyond to try and assist us after coming to our room and seeing the massive nest by searching for a mosquito spray, even going across the street to another hotel to ask them for some assistance. Unfortunately, at that time in the night there was no spray, nor were there any rooms available to move us to since they were fully booked. We looked around to possibly moving to another hotel but there was nothing available at that time near our hotel. Additionally, the neighborhood around our hotel was not very safe at night and we did not feel comfortable leaving the hotel at midnight to find something else. The man apologized for not being able to assist any further and he did as much as he could during the situation and stated that we could perhaps receive a refund when we talk to the person that works in the morning. So, my friend and I tried our best to get some rest with mosquitos flying around us and landing on our pillows and beds. We come up with the idea of using her lavender spray around us as a form of mosquito repellent because we searched online and it had stated that they are not a fan of the scent. So as a last ditch attempt, we did this and began seeing the mosquitos crawl and leave into the vent, meaning the mosquitos are still living in the hotel and will be for upcoming guests! By morning, I got up and immediately went down to the front desk to talk to the lady that was taking over the man’s shift. The man who assisted us last night explained to her the situation and wrote a note for her as well and she proceeds to tell us that the mosquitos are just a part of “nature” and that there is nothing wrong with there being an entire mosquito nest in our room. I told her, “Yes, it is nature but that does not mean it should be in a hotel bedroom!” She scoffs at us, says we are overreacting and tells us she can not offer a refund but can provide a free breakfast which is worth €12. Why would we consume food at an establishment that is clearly unhygienic? Also, imagine if someone who was allergic to mosquito bites stayed in the room we were given and she tells you you’re “overreacting”. She also blamed us for the mosquito nest saying we likely brought it in ourselves which is completely impossible as a mosquito nest takes at a minimum of 5 days to lay eggs and for them to hatch which means the nest has been here way before we arrived. Plus, my friend and I are from a location that rarely has mosquitos, which is another reason as to why we brushed it off the first night because we weren’t even sure what bug it was because we rarely see it back home. In addition, we looked at the reviews for this location and 1 week prior to our stay, a man states he saw multiple forms of bugs in his room as well! If we had known this we would’ve never booked! The lady proceeds to state that we should’ve just slept with the mosquito nest in our room because it is normal. We realize that she clearly will not resolve this issue and we take the issue to Hotels.com. Hotels.com was much more accommodating but due to restrictions, they can not process a refund without the “front desk’s” permission, which is the lady we had just spoken to. Even the Hotels.com man was extremely apologetic about the situation and wished he could do more for us but due to his company restrictions could not. We understood and asked if we disputed this charge with our credit card company, would Hotels.com comply and he said yes, we certainly will. Thankfully our credit card company understood and provided a refund. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

If you are looking for a good enough, reasonable priced (we paid €50 for a spacious room with 2 single beds), centralish enough hotel, Libertel is a fine option. We stayed 1 night and paid the tourist tax on top at the reception (I think it was €10.40 for the 2 of us for 1 night). The room is quite big (compared to others in this price range), clean and the bathroom was pretty nice too. We stayed at room 123, which faces the main road. This means there was some proper noise around 05:00 in the morning, since there is a supermarket nearby and I think they were loading/unloading stuff. I asked the receptionist when we arrived for a room that is quiet and she said they had some at the other side of the hotel, but were more expensive. So, bear that in mind in case you book the cheapest option (like us). It could be the ones facing the main road where the entrance is. The bathroom had soap and shampoo, so no need to carry anything. They had 2 big and 2 small towels too, so all fine really. No mini-fridge in our room (unlike the photos), so bear that in mind, in case that's why you choose this hotel (at least our room didn't have any). All in all, I would say it was a good enough option for us, but if the cost was higher (like taking the room looking at the back, to avoid the noise), I would probably look for other alternatives.

I had another nice stay here. I like the modern and colourful design of the rooms, which were refurbished recently, and the hotel is spotlessly clean everywhere. Very close to the metro. The staff do a great job.

We had a one night stay here at the end of our trip when we just wanted to chill out. Helpful front desk staff, comfortable room overlooking the street below. Nice safe area with some food options close by.

Location of the hotel was excellent as it was a two minute walk from the Jaurès metro station,there were very good restaurants in the vicinity,the room was quite small in size plus my room was overlooking the road which had very noisy traffic.
